What Is Daily Nasal Hygiene?

What Is Daily Nasal Hygiene?

You brush your teeth every day. You wash your face. But your nose — the organ that filters every breath you take — gets nothing. Daily nasal hygiene is the idea that it should.

The concept is simple: rinsing your nasal passages with a warm saline solution as a regular hygiene routine, the same way you treat brushing your teeth. Not as a medicine you reach for only when you're sick, but as maintenance — clearing out the mucus, dust, pollen, and other particles your nose traps throughout the day.

That's the idea behind the Clair Starter Kit: a physician-developed electric nasal rinse device that makes the daily saline rinse quick, gentle, and mess-free.

This isn't a marketing invention. ENT doctors and rhinologists have been describing nasal care in exactly these terms for years.

What the Medical World Says

"A saltwater rinse is basically brushing your teeth for your nose." That's Dr. Kristine Smith, an otolaryngologist at University of Utah Health, describing how nasal rinsing works. She adds: "It's flushing out all the junk that we breathe in during the day."

Dr. Jonathan B. Overdevest, a rhinologist at Columbia, says the same thing about patients who make it a routine: "It becomes part of their personal hygiene, just like brushing their teeth" (ColumbiaDoctors).

And Dr. Charles S. Ebert, Jr., of UNC Health, tells his patients to literally link the two habits: "I tell patients to put it beside their toothbrush, and if they're brushing their teeth they should be rinsing their nose" (UNC Health).

The research backs the routine too. In a 2002 randomized controlled trial led by Dr. David Rábago, 76 patients used daily saline irrigation for six months — with 87% adherence — and 93% reported improved sinus-related quality of life, along with fewer symptoms and less antibiotic use (Clinician.com).

So "daily nasal hygiene" is really just a name for something physicians already recommend: regular saline rinsing as part of taking care of yourself.

Sticking with it is easier when you're stocked up: Tip + Saline Refill Packs keep fresh tips and pre-measured saline sachets on hand, so there's one less reason to skip a day.

What the Routine Actually Involves

A daily nasal hygiene routine has three parts, and none of them is complicated:
